Rally for Darfur: Sunday April 30th, Washington DC

Facts:

In addition to the 400,000 who have already died as a result of the genocide in Darfur:

 -More than 300,000 people along the western border of Sudan and in the central mountains have been cut off from aid because of the prevailing insecurity in the region.

-Humanitarian vehicles are routinely attacked and looted.

-Janjaweed, the Sudanese government-backed militia, are now spreading their campaign to neighboring Chad, killing, raping and burning villages while shouting their signature racial epithet: "black slaves."

Internships

Bank Hapoalim-ICC Summer Internship Program in Israel

Bank Hapoalim is offering an eight-week internship in Israel this summer to 20-25 outstanding business students. Students who take part in this unique opportunity will gain a firsthand look into Israel’s banking industry and a deeper understanding of international financial markets. During the course of the internship, students will receive direct mentorship and supervision from seasoned banking professionals.  Interns will receive a $1,000 stipend for participation in the program. The internship will run from June 18 to Aug. 11, and participants are fully responsible for their own round-trip travel to Israel, as well as room and board. Fluency in Hebrew is not required to participate in the internship. For more information, please contact Zach Gelman, Israel on Campus Coalition, zgelman@israelcc.org. Parliamentary Internship Program

Description: The Canada-Israel Committee Parliamentary Internship Program is an initiative of the Canada-Israel Committee established as an annual competition for university graduates who have an interest in governmental affairs. This internship program provides back-bench Members of Parliament with highly qualified assistants, and gives university graduates an opportunity to supplement their theoretical knowledge of Parliament with practical experience of the day-to-day work of the Members. Also, in the longer term, graduates of the program are better able to make a significant contribution to Canadian public life. Intern responsibilities may include working with Members of the House of Commons, conducting scholarly research, and undertaking study travel. The internship program will begin in the fall of 2006 and conclude in the spring of 2007.

Requirements: To be eligible you must be a Canadian citizen; have a recent university degree and; have an interest in Parliament. This internship is open to graduates of several disciplines, including the social sciences, political science, law, and the humanities.

Positions: 5

Duration: Approximately 9 months

Location: Ottawa

Compensation: $12,000.
